Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a trash bag limit? 

A-1 Disposal has a six-bag limit (kitchen size, 13 gallon) on curbside pick-up. Extra bag fees WILL apply.


​What time should I put out the trash?

ALL Trash must be placed at the curb the night before your pick-up day or by 6:00 a.m. the day of. If trash is not out, it will NOT be picked up until your next scheduled pick-up day.

  

What about loose trash?

ALL trash must be canned, boxed, bagged, or bundled. NO loose trash, NO cans, or bags over 50 pounds. If a bag is too HEAVY for one person to lift, it will NOT be taken.


When will my trash be picked up? 

The time of day for your trash pick-up will depend on a number of factors.  Please have your trash out by 6:00 a.m. the day of to ensure your trash will be picked up. 


What can I put in my 96-gal tote?

Do not overload carts; the lid must close completely. Overage fees will apply. Make sure that all trash and debris are in the cart. Garbage or waste left beside carts may not be collected.


How do I dispose of a used mattress or old toilet? Can I schedule a bulk pickup? 

Bulk and large item pickups are available. Terms, fees, and conditions will apply. Please call our office for pricing. Plan to make arrangements at least one day in advance to ensure pick-up.


What items do NOT go into the trash?

A-1 Disposal will NOT pick up Construction Materials or Hazardous Waste!

**Motor Oil, Metal, Batteries, Paint, Gasoline, Motors, Steel Pipes, Dirt, Rock, Shrubs, Sod, Concrete, Brick, Lumber, Tin, Landscape Timbers, Railroad Ties, Wire, Barb Wire, etc. 


What do we considered hazardous waste?

Always read the product labels. Key words to look for on the label are DANGER, POISON, WARNING, or CAUTION. Products are considered hazardous if they have one or more of the following properties:

  • Flammable/combustible – can be easily set on fire.
  • Explosive/reactive – can detonate or explode through exposure to heat, sudden shock, pressure, or incompatible substances.
  • Corrosive – chemical action can burn or destroy living tissues or other materials when brought in contact.
  • Toxic – capable of causing injury or death through ingestion, inhalation, or skin absorption.


Where can I dispose of cleaning products and other hazardous waste?

What about tires? 

Tires must be either shredded, cut into 4 pieces  or sidewalls cut out. The tire(s) can be picked-up by on your regular scheduled service day at an additional charge. The City of Columbia Landfill does not accept whole tires. 


Who is responsible for the dumpster? A-1 Disposal or me?

The customer is responsible for their dumpster while in service from A-1 Disposal. (Do NOT use containers for burning.) Report any suspicious activity around dumpsters.


What happens if it’s bad weather?
